Lejba Rajs
Henryk Goldszmit’s great-grandfather
His name and surname is known only from the death certificate of his daughter, Chana Goldszmit, dated 1867. Her death was reported to the office by Nusym Zajd and Abuś Lejdertych, both of whom were labourers (they were also witnesses at Jakub Goldszmit’s first wedding ceremony). Apparently, they inadvertently distorted the maiden surname of the deceased and declared that Chana was the daughter of Lejba and Hinda Ejser. Other documents confirm that Chana’s maiden surname was Rajs/Rajz.
