In order to clean up rubble, roadways, as well as to remove museum exhibits, libraries and works of art, or to remove furniture and appliances from Jewish apartments, Jewish passersbys were captured on the streets. After working all day, without food, they returned home in torn clothes, with bruised eyes and injuries all over their bodies. Those who had the misfortune to get work in the parliamentary garden or the automobile park on Oboźna Street, he experienced German educational methods firsthand. (pp. 21-22)
