The tiny property – Dzika Street 19 adapted for the owner’s family and staff, was so populated that the residents sat side by side on the floor ‘in a crouch’, resting their chins on their knees. Any passage was out of the question. When someone wanted to get out, they trampled on others. The stuffiness was causing nausea, despite the open windows. (p. 73)
